The principle of metal laser cutting.
Metal laser cutting uses a laser tube to emit light, and then uses a reflector and focusing mirror to reflect and focus the light onto the laser head. The focused strong light illuminates the material that needs to be cut or carved, causing it to quickly melt due to high temperature, achieving the purpose of cutting or carving. During the cutting process, auxiliary gases suitable for the material being cut are also added. When cutting steel, oxygen must be used as an auxiliary gas to undergo an exothermic chemical reaction with the molten metal, which oxidizes the material and helps blow away the slag inclusions in the cutting seam. The auxiliary gas entering the nozzle can also cool the focusing lens, preventing smoke and dust from entering the lens holder and contaminating the lens, causing it to overheat.
The advantages and characteristics of metal laser cutting.
Compared with other thermal cutting methods, the general characteristics of laser cutting are fast cutting speed and high quality. Specifically summarized in the following aspects.
(1) Good cutting quality.
Due to the small laser spot, high energy density, and fast cutting speed, laser cutting can achieve good cutting quality.
The laser cutting slit is thin and narrow, with both sides of the slit parallel and perpendicular to the surface, and the dimensional accuracy of the cutting part can reach ± 0.05 mm.

During laser cutting, there is no contact between the welding torch and the workpiece, and there is no tool wear. To process parts of different shapes, there is no need to change the “tool”, only the output parameters of the laser need to be changed. The laser cutting process has low noise, low vibration, and no pollution.
