What is a laser cutting machine?
Laser cutting refers to the melting and evaporation of the energy released when the laser beam is irradiated on the surface of the workpiece to achieve the purpose of cutting and carving. Laser cutting has the characteristics of high precision, fast cutting, unlimited cutting mode, automatic typesetting, material saving, smooth cutting and low processing cost. Laser cutting machine system is usually composed of laser generator, (external) beam transmission component, workbench (machine), microcomputer control cabinet, cooler and computer (hardware and software).
What is the principle of laser cutting machine?
The laser beam emitted by the laser generator is used to focus the high power density laser beam through the optical path system. The laser heat is absorbed by the workpiece material, and the workpiece temperature rises sharply. After reaching the boiling point, the material evaporates and begins to form a hole. With the high pressure air flow, the relative position of the beam and the workpiece moves, and the material finally forms a gap. The process parameters during sewing (cutting speed, laser power, gas pressure, etc. and motion path are controlled by the numerical control system, and the slag in the gap is removed by constant pressure auxiliary gas).
What process does the laser cutting machine use?
Laser cutting machine equipment is more and more mature in various tool industries such as laser cutting machine, laser engraving machine, laser indicator, laser welding machine, etc. So how does laser cutting work and how to distinguish between good and bad laser cutting? First of all, the laser energy is concentrated on the high-density beam in the form of light. The beam is transmitted to the working surface to generate enough heat to melt the material, and directly remove the molten metal together with the high-pressure gas coaxial with the beam to achieve the purpose of cutting. This shows that the processing of laser cutting and machining is essentially different.
What can laser cutting machine cut?
This material can get good results when cut with oxygen. When oxygen is used as the processing gas, the cutting edge will be slightly oxidized. Plates up to 4 mm thick can be high-pressure cut using nitrogen as the processing gas. In this case, the cutting edge will not be oxidized. For plates with thickness of more than 10mm, special plates are used on the laser, and better results can be obtained by smearing oil on the surface of the workpiece during processing.
If cutting end oxidation is acceptable, oxygen can be used. Unoxidized burr edges are obtained with nitrogen, and no treatment is required. The oil film coated on the surface of the plate can obtain better perforation effect without reducing the processing quality.
Aluminum with high reflectivity and thermal conductivity, but thickness less than 6mm, can be cut according to alloy type and laser function. When cutting with oxygen, the cutting surface is rough and hard. When nitrogen is used, the cutting surface is soft. Pure aluminum is highly pure and difficult to cut, so it can only be cut if the reflective absorption device is installed in the system. Otherwise, reflection may damage the optical components.
Titanium plate is cut with argon and nitrogen as processing gas. Other parameters can refer to nickel chromium steel.
Copper and brass
Both materials have high reflectivity and good thermal conductivity. Brass with thickness not exceeding 1mm can be cut with nitrogen. Copper with thickness less than 2mm can be cut, and oxygen must be used for processing gas. Copper and brass can only be cut if the system is equipped with a reflective absorption device. Otherwise, reflection may damage the optical components.

At present, the prices of laser cutting machines on the market vary from 100000 to millions. They all say that their machines can process various metal materials. But we cannot deny their claims.
We still have to consider the equipment from many aspects. Generally, laser cutting machine equipment with a machine of about 3000W is used most. Because this equipment can process thin plates and slightly thicker plates.
