TEN COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT LASER CUTTING-Yan

At XTlaser, we eat and breathe laser cutting on a daily basis. We live it every day. Some of the team have been working in the industry all their working lives and have clocked up a wide range of skills in the sector.

We get thousands of enquiries every month. The majority of these enquiries come from manufacturers and organisations who are looking to partner with us to provide laser cutting solution that fits what they are looking for. If a customer has electronic drawings such as dxf’s or dwg’s and know the grade of material they need, they can trust the team at XTlaser; because we provide quick quotes, good lead times and deliver what they want, when they want it.

However, some of our enquiries come from customers who know what they want, they know their end goal, but don’t have the in-house skills or knowledge of how to get there. They might have an idea for a product or require a laser cut component that fills a particular requirement, and they come to us to make that requirement real.

So, with this in mind, we thought we’d collate some of the top questions we get asked about laser cutting and answer them for you.

1. I don’t have a technical drawing of my part, product or component, does this matter?

In short, no. We have a top-notch team of CAD/CAM engineers based at our manufacturing facility. And while it would be great to have supplied artwork provided, our guys can take rough designs and work them up into a workable file suitable for laser cutting.

2. What metals do you laser cut?

Little fact, SSC stands for Steel Service Centre. We cut a wide range of steel and metals. Including mild steel (0.5-25mm), stainless steel (0.5-30mm) and aluminium (0.5mm to 30mm) in most forms. Due to the introduction of fiber technology, we can also laser cut Brass up to 15mm and Copper up to 12mm.

3. How quickly can you manufacture my part, product or component?

With a manufacturing facility that works non-stop, we aim to produce components as quickly as possible. All of our quotes state full and accurate lead times on the day of issue. We will then confirm these lead times at the point of order, so you know exactly what is happening with your order and when. Demand plays a massive part in to when your order is completed, but the standard lead time for flat laser cut components is 3 to 5 days. However, the team at SSC Laser are a helpful bunch and if you need your items quicker, let us know and we’ll do everything in our power to help.
