It is because the machine will only with one lens.  So that means if you choose one which is  incorrect. Then your machine may not able to achieve what you want it to do. So in usual, there are these model below:

50 * 50mm, 110 * 110mm, 175 * 175mm, 200 * 200mm, 300 * 300mm.

The lens’ price are same. So there are lots of customers are willing to choose bigger size. Because the model defined by working area. The customers who want the biggest one was thinking that might process bigger stuff. But is the idea correct?

Definitely no, I always say that there is not a machine could do anything for you.

How to choose lens?

First you need to know what is the maximum size you need to mark for your object. If the object is only 100*100mm, Then you choose 110*110mm. Do not choose bigger size. Because laser is a kind of light. If you do want to engraving, deep engraving, or even cutting. The lens you choose bigger, it means the laser from two sides are weaker.

When the scanning area reaches a certain level, the light spot diameter is very large, not sufficiently fine. Because the spot becomes large,the distortion increases,so the power density of laser decreases rapidly, and the working distance lengthens. This inevitably leads to the loss of laser energy. So it doesn’t conducive to precision machining.

Fiber laser engraving machine application on metal – Alex

Metal Fiber laser engraving machine have more and more application now. Especially on metal product, such as stainless steel, carbon steel, aluminum, brass etc.

In order to meet different process demand, metal fiber laser engraving machine also many different application, including color marking, deep engraving, rotary marking etc.

Color Laser Marking

Metal Fiber laser engraving machine can do simple color on stainless steel, such as red, blue, black, white, pink etc. Also it can do black color on Ti, and mopa fiber laser marking machine can do black on anodized aluminum. But for other material, we can only do ordinary marking one white color. It is not possible to do more color.

 

Deep engraving

Also there is many customers use fiber laser engraving machine on deep engraving. The metal is more soft, it is more easy to do deep engraving.

For aluminum and brass, it is easy to do depth. With 30w fiber laser engraving machine we can make more than 1mm depth. Due to carbon steel and stainless steel is very hard, it will take much more long time when we need do deep engraving. Usually 0.5mm is ok for 30w laser.

When we do deep engraving, we need copy two layer. The first layer is low speed and high power so that we can strip the metal material. The second layer is high speed with low power so that we can clean the small slag when do deep engraving.

Due to deep engraving need break the surface of material, so the engraving surface will be rust after some time. So only for some metal parts or mould, people will do deep engraving. Near no people do it on stainless steel.

Jewelry cutting

Fiber laser engraver also have wide application on jewelry cutting, such as gold, silver and brass. 30w laser can cut 0.5mm thickness common and 50w can cut 1.0mm thickness common.

This is one of the most common application of fiber laser marking machine now.

Nowadays laser marking technology have vert fast development, its upgrading speed may be less than 1 year. In all fiber laser marking technology, mopa fiber laser marker is one new technology. It only have small difference with Q-switched laser, but have large difference on application.

Difference between MOPA fiber laser marker & Q-switched laser marker

Mopa fiber laser belong to one kind fiber laser. It can do all job what we do with q-switch fiber laser marking. Their laser source’s interior structure have small difference, but we are not professional technicist and no way to distinguish them from outside. For most people, we can distinguish mopa fiber laser marker and q-switch fiber laser marker from software.

MOPA fiber laser marking machine have adjustable “Q Pulse Width“, but q-switch fiber laser marker don’t have it.

MOPA laser have adjustable Q Pulse Width, but for ordinary fiber laser marking machine, their pulse width is fixed. This is the main reason why mopa fiber laser can do more job than q-switch fiber laser marker. If we fix mopa’s pulse width same with q-switch, their marking effect will be all same.

Advantage of MOPA fiber laser marking machine

Compared with q-switch fiber laser marking machine, MOPA laser main have two advantage.

 

 

  • color marking on stainless steel

Q-switch fiber laser marking machine also can mark colors on stainless steel, but its color is not bright and can do several very simple color. Also we need adjust focus length when do color marking and it is not easy to control. One green hand is not possible to finish this job, even for a skilled hand, he may need take several hours to finish it.

With MOPA fiber laser, we can always mark colors on focus and just need adjust parameter of speed, power, q pulse width and frequency. It is much more easy than q-switch fiber laser marking machine.

  • black marking on anodized aluminum

Q-switch fiber laser marking machine can only do ordinary mark on all aluminum, no any color. But mopa fiber laser can do black color on anodized aluminum. This function have many wide application in some fields, especially for phone case mark. Such as iPhone, HUAWEI, SAMUNG etc, all these brand use mopa laser.

Additional, we know plastic marking is complex and some of them can do laser marking, and some of them can’t do laser marking. For some special plastic, mopa laser machine can mark more kind plastic. But to be honest, all plastic need do test before confirm whether laser can do it.

When we should select MOPA laser

Mopa fiber laser marking machine is much more expensive than q-switch laser, so usually we just need use ordinary fiber laser marking machine. Only when you confirm you need do color marking on ss and black marking on anodized aluminum, we select mopa laser. Otherwise no matter what you do, no need select MOPA laser before do real test.
